Utah fossils illuminate 80 million year gap in dinosaur history
Utah discoveries reveal 80 types and 6,000 fossils dating about 100 million years ago. Long neck sauropods dominated North American forests, mowing large swaths and prompting a shift to low growing shrubs and new herbivores before Tyrannosaurus rex emerged. Paleontologists led by Richard L. Cifelli call the find a milestone in understanding a twilight period between earlier dinosaurs and the dinosaurs extinction.
