Open House Planned for New Green Hall Law School

Kansas University law school alumni may tour the new Green Hall on 15th Street this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. Deanell Taha says students will be stationed to answer questions while cider and cookies are served. Classes begin Monday in the $5 million building and the Uncle Jimmy Green statue will move later in the year.

Maple Leaf Festival Opens with Weekend of Events

Baldwin plans a full weekend for the 20th Maple Leaf Festival with stage shows at Rice Auditorium Baker University and a morning hot air balloon rally. Jeanne Warren Maple Leaf Junior Miss will lead the parade. A soap box derby, bus tours, and special rides from Vinland Airport are included along with arts displays and a breakfast on the prairie.

Carter Torrijos meet to clear Panamanian canal treaty issues

President Carter and Gen. Omar Torrijos held a 90 minute White House session to clarify disputed language on joint defense of the canal after 2000. Dole seeks DEA files on Torrijos drug links

Fumes trigger large evacuation at Kansas energy plant

Toxic fumes forced the evacuation of 600 construction workers from the Jeffrey Energy Center near St. Marys Kansas. About 40 workers were hospitalized with unknown conditions, four sent to Topeka and 30 to 40 to Manhattan hospitals. The fumes volume and source remain undetermined.
