Fire at Lawrence Paper Co causes sprinkler activation
Firemen were summoned at 7 50 p m Thursday to the Lawrence Paper Co at 6th and N H Sts after a bearing on a paper roll ing machine ignited and set off the plant sprinkler system. The fire was in the ceiling above rollers when responders arrived but no building damage was seen. Three pumpers a ladder truck and a snorkel truck were sent. Police shut traffic at 7th and N H Sts and at 6th and N H Sts by the Kansas River Bridge.

Lawrence Couple Injured in One Car Crash on U S 59
A Lawrence pair, Jantha Adams and Phyllis Adams, were hurt in a one car crash on U S 59 about a mile south of Lawrence Thursday afternoon. Jantha Adams drove a 1959 truck, swerved into the southbound lane after seeing a westbound car, and the vehicle rolled once. both were treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
