Thwart An Escape Attempt At Kansas Prison
Two insane ward prisoners Robert Ragland and Ollie Long were stopped by Warden Prather and guards after they clubbed guard J. P. McNamee and beat orderly R. C. Weaver. The men allegedly opened cells with a self made key and tried freeing other inmates before officers arrived. Both attackers were overpowered, with no serious injuries to McNamee or Weaver. Ragland has four prior escape attempts since 1931. Long is serving 10 to 21 years for robbery. The attempted escape occurred in a wing where the wall is lower than the rest of the prison.
