In Camden New Jersey Emma Vane widow of Captain KE Vinne and her daughter Mrs Sarah Shaw were shot dead in their home as burglars ransacked a bureau on the second floor. The son, ill with typhoid, reported a pistol shot and found his mother in a chair dead from a head wound. The attackers fled as police investigated the crime.
From Cab map we learn that Spain unofficially drafts a reply to United States Minister Woodford. The foreign affairs minister says Spain cannot fix the war’s end date but believes rebels are in a critical position and Spanish troops will win. Other items note a pastor’s wife abandonment case. Jack the Ripper-type arrests. hatchery plans for Neosho. and various local crime and civic notes.
Oct 12 reports from St Louis describe 10 year old Miss Darling entering attorney H. G. Powell’s office and firing a revolver at him after a quarrel. A struggle ensued with neighbors separating them. Darling was arrested as Powell denies her claim of harm. Other items include a New York salesman Sinclair McCoy dying after a self-inflicted wound and various political and legal notes from across the country.
In Crawford County Kansas J E Ogborn and his ten year old son were injured when a blasting fuse misfired during well work. The boy died, and Ogborn is feared fatally injured. Other items note royal baptism plans and a child beating case in Fond du Lac.
Leavenworth Kan Oct 12 Hundreds of veterans heard speeches in Hanbeck pavilion led by Senator Harris Representatives Broderick and Curtis and G A R leaders. A large crowd attended the afternoon campfire and parade despite light rain and strong turnout of visitors.
Nevada Missouri October 12 a Nevada baby born yesterday is said to count mother grandmother great grandmother and great great grandmother among her relatives all living. The mother is 25 the grandmother 45 the great grandmother 63 and the great great grandmother 91.
