High Voltage Line for Reserve Power to Lawrence Ready
Final inspection of the new 150000 high voltage transmission line from Lawrence to Tecumseh was made Monday and testing was set for today. The line, 24 miles from Kansite Electric substation near Lawrence to the Tecumseh plant, will provide constant power for Lawrence during plant outages. It links systems of Kansas Electric Power and Kansas Power and Light, joining Leavenworth and Tonka backups. The 600 volt line has 5000 kilowatts capacity and uses six hundred poles over ten miles of copper wire with many insulators. Construction began June 11 and faced delays from bad weather. Automatic switches will disconnect and reconnect the line during faults, then lock in place and sound a warning.

Governor Taulen refused to permit extradition of James M. Swazey from Ottawa Kansas to Howard county Missouri.
