The French announced that 3,500 troops trapped northwest of Thatkhe were largely lost in the war with Indo Chinese nationalists led by Ho Chi Minh. Several hundred escaped. Sergeant Roper Back in States After Wounding
First Sergeant Maurice C. Roper, son of Mrs. Laura Roper, has been flown to Fairfield Air Base California to recover from wounds received in late September. His wife visited him at the base and he will go to Washington DC for medical consultation. He still has steel fragments in his left eye and hearing loss. Roper was injured when an exploring jeep struck a mine. he was hospitalized in Tokyo. In a separate crash, cars driven by Richard Palmer and Neale Caraxin collided at Tenth and Vermont. Palmer’s car sustained about 78 damage and Caraxin’s was damaged in the incident.
