Lawrence Lodge No 4 Odd Fellows Story of Growth and Consolidations
The Lawrence lodge No 4 of the Odd Fellows origins date to September 25, 1857, with rapid growth and later consolidations forming a strong state presence. Lodges Halcyon and Excelsior merged into No 4, Mount Oread Encampment No 4 formed in 1866, and Rebekah Lodge No 4 followed in 1870, with No 4 receiving charters in 1859 and 1866. The order aided Civil War efforts, faced postwar reorganization, and acquired property at Eighth and Vermont streets in 1885. The Rebekahs have contributed significantly to local and state activities.
