Artists’ varied studios reveal quirks and comforts
In Lawrence area homes, painters adapt tight spaces for creativity. Van Hee favors a garage-like retreat with a wood stove and records, while Malissa Martin Wilke works in a second floor bedroom suited for encaustics. Diana Dunkley rents a 2000 square foot custom studio with abundant light, and Sandy McKenzie uses her entire house as workspace, relying on portable lighting and a dining room table for supplies.
