Thousands rally for immigrant rights in New York
Tens of thousands of immigrants and labor advocates gathered in New York for a rally on immigration reform. Cardinal Edward Egan addressed the crowd as organizers touted a nationwide Freedom Ride culminating in Washington. Organizers cited 100000 attendees. The event supported legalization, better conditions, and family reunification for undocumented workers. Two congressional bills aim to grant status, including a farm worker pathway and a path for children who arrived before age 16.
