Settlement Endorses Race and Sex Bias Case at Rent-A-Center
A judge approved a 47 million settlement Friday for thousands of women who claimed Rent-A-Center, the Plano based rent to own operator, denied or forced them out of jobs. The deal includes hiring the plaintiffs and changing employment practices after two sex discrimination suits in East St. Louis and Memphis. The plaintiffs said demotions firings high crime work areas and intrusive sex religion and bathroom tests were used to remove women. Their lead attorney credited management for backing the settlement. In a separate incident three Greyhound passengers including an off duty female bus driver helped subdue a man who leapt at the driver and steering wheel on I 75 in northwest Ohio. He was taken into custody and charged with inducing panic disorderly conduct and assault.

Court Rules Confession In 1968 Navy Killing Not Valid
An 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision finds that Navy officers coerced a confession from Edward LeBrun without advising him of Miranda rights, potentially shielding him from trial for the 1968 killing of shipmate Andrew Lee Muns aboard the USS Cacapon near the Philippines. The ruling upholds a lower court's decision. Separately, two aviators from Fighter Squadron 101 were rescued after their F-14 Tomcat crashed off Key West during a training flight. they were treated for minor injuries and released.
