Ford visit to KU confirmed for first of year

KPL Rates Among Lowest in Nation Say Officials
A Kansas Power & Light Co spokesman announced that a Edison Electric Institute study found KPL ranked 163rd out of 231 investor owned utilities for 500 kilowatt hour costs as of July 1 1977. The typical 500 kWh bill was $20.09, compared with rates up to $40 at higher priced utilities, with the lowest regional rates in the Pacific Northwest due to subsidized hydro power.

Man Arrested In Connection With Liquor Store Burglary
One man was in custody and another sought after a liquor store burglary at Frey and Williams in southwest Lawrence. Ronald K. Hensley, 19, a Haskell Indian Junior College student from Cement Oklahoma, is held in Douglas County jail on burglary charges. Police chased him from the scene as he carried five bottles. he dropped them and fled, later captured after a foot chase. The second man fled in a pickup later found abandoned in a Haskell lot. Estimated damage includes a $350 window and $61 worth of liquor stolen.
