A runaway truck thundered down a hill and struck a moving Baltimore and Ohio train. Five people died including driver Claude Brandt and four others. Several derailed cars carried explosives but did not explode. Casualties included Jacob Casale and Sheryl Roas whose grandmother Dora Whiteman and Martha C. McConnell also perished. Mrs. Ross suffered serious injuries. Eyewitnesses described the train carnage andiling debris, with rescue workers aiding amid smoke and dust.
