General Will Retire For Health After Korea War Service
Tokyo October 5 Lt Gen George E Stratemeyer commander of the Far East Air Forces through the first year of the Korean War will retire soon due to ill health. He and wife will depart Japan in November by ship for Winter Park Florida to await retirement orders for physical disability. The 61 year old veteran who received the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in Korea earlier this year suffered a heart attack last May and was hospitalized two months. Stratemeyer held top air staff posts in 1942 43 and led India Burma theater in 1945 later serving as U S air commander in China with headquarters at Chungking. His FEAF successor is Lt Gen QO Weyland.
