New elections planned in Lesotho after mediation talks
South Africa announced new elections for Lesotho within 15 to 18 months after mediating talks between the ruling Lesotho Congress for Democracy and opposition groups. The agreement came as 27 soldiers died in the turmoil sparked by the South African led intervention. Flags, officials, and workers across the region watched as 1,000 opposition supporters gathered outside the King Letsie III palace. The electoral commission must be strengthened before polls.
