A 2.2 mile walk in Lawrence raised 1600 for the Kansas City Area Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. About 50 participants joined the second annual event supporting people with Alzheimer's in Douglas County.
Mecca Bodega and Simon 7 will perform at 3 p m Thursday at Hastings Books Music and Video in Iowa City on 23rd Street. They are among 16 bands on Street Dreams New York Underground a CD of subway performers from New York City. Mecca Bodega uses hand drums and hammered dulcimer while Simon 7 centers on the didjeridoo.

Perry City Council moved to stop unauthorized dumping at the waste site a quarter mile south of Perry intended for plant debris after reports of boards appearing. The council also authorized drafting an easement for a new water line to serve a upcoming subdivision and purchased a backup generator for 3000 dollars to cover power outages.
Police report a vehicle burglarized between 6 p.m. September 20 and 8 a.m. September 23 in the 500 block of Michigan, Lawrence, with $2,200.50 in losses including a radar detector. Fire crews checked a gas leak at 4701 Carmel Place, no remaining danger. Hazel Metzger discharged from Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an automobile crash near 31st and town. Douglas County Ambulance listed several medical emergencies and transports, including an emergency transfer to Kansas University Medical Center.
