Chicago researchers report a simple saliva test for fibrocystic disease in children, often misdiagnosed as asthma or diarrhea. The method uses a cotton swab to collect saliva and measures salt content to flag the condition, which can affect pancreas and lungs and is linked to saltier secretions.
Juan Peron enters exile in Asuncion Paraguay with armed guards after flight from river plate area. Provisional President Lonardi hopes Paraguay blocks any return and guards say Peron may move on to Spain or Switzerland. Cmdr Cosne Miglior accompanied Peron aboard the amphibian plane.
Norman Leary from Route 2 Lawrence won this week's Journal-World football guessing contest. He missed only one game Detroit 41 Wichita 0 and correctly picked Colorado to defeat K U 27 6. He will receive two 50 yard line reserved seat tickets to the Kansas versus Iowa State game. The contest drew entries from many cities.
Sidney F. Harris 52 publisher of the Ottawa Herald died Sunday in a Kansas City hospital after heart surgery in Philadelphia last April. He and brother John P. Harris owned Harris Publishing Co which published News-Herald Chanute Tribune Salina Journal and Garden City Telegram. He helped run KIUL radio in Garden City and was a lifelong Ottawa resident and Culver Military Academy and Kansas University alumnus.

William Chase Stevens 94 professor emeritus of botany at Kansas University died at home after a two month illness following a hip fracture from a fall. He was born 1861 in Princeton Illinois and moved to Lawrence with his family in 1867.
