Publisher S. F. Harris of Ottawa Herald Dies in Kansas City

Sidney F. Harris 52 publisher of the Ottawa Herald died Sunday in a Kansas City hospital after heart surgery in Philadelphia last April. He and brother John P. Harris owned Harris Publishing Co which published News-Herald Chanute Tribune Salina Journal and Garden City Telegram. He helped run KIUL radio in Garden City and was a lifelong Ottawa resident and Culver Military Academy and Kansas University alumnus.

Early today a BAT Stratojet bomber from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson reportedly collided with an Army Liaison plane near Tatum New Mexico. Five or six people were feared dead with at least one fatality confirmed and a second crewman injured. Heavy rains hampered rescue efforts at the wreck site about 16 miles west and two miles south of town.

Botanist Stevens Dies at 94 After Injury at KU

William Chase Stevens 94 professor emeritus of botany at Kansas University died at home after a two month illness following a hip fracture from a fall. He was born 1861 in Princeton Illinois and moved to Lawrence with his family in 1867.
