Chicago triumphed in game three of the world series over Cincinnati with a 6 to 0 score. The first half featured Haskell and Baker on Haskell field, with Davis kicking from the 39 yard line and Anderson rushing 32 yards for a second quarter touchdown.
Lawrence leads 13 to 0 at halftime as Lawrence Manual football game unfolds with unclear wording but indicates Lawrence ahead at intermission and Cook Field hosting the event.
Perfect weather greeted the Reds and White Sox for game three at Comiskey Park Chicago on Oct 3 1919. A large crowd gathered with bleachers three fourths full and many campers outside gates while US band played near third base and vocalists entertained. Both teams arrived in good form with Ruth Sallee and Ring warming up. Kerr positioned in batting order and James pitching sequence shown.
More than a thousand students attended the season opening football rally at the University last night in Fraser Chapel. Dr. F C Allen and Colonel Harold Burdick spoke praising the team and asking student support. KU band provided music and students marched orderly to the business section afterward.
The seventh of ten contestants in the national balloon race started from St Louis reports landing in Stanbridge East Quebec at 8 55 last night. Ralph H Upson of Akron Aero Club telegraphed the ground report. This marks the fourth balloon to reach Canada. Captain E E Honeywell piloting the Kansas City entry descended near Cardinal Canada at 60 PM yesterday.
In Chicago on October 3, housewives anticipated further drops in pork product retail prices after hog prices fell to the lowest level since July 1917 at 15.15 dollars per hundredweight. Packers officials expected retail prices to track downward within days. Yesterday’s 25 to 50 cent decline per hundredweight pushed the week’s wholesale drop to one cent per pound.
The King and Queen of the Belgians with Prince Leopold formally shed their incognito in New York, greeting Vice President Marshall and boarding the yacht Nome on the Hudson for their official entry. Mr and Mrs Rosroe Stubbs traveled to Topeka and are living in Texas while Mr Stubbs tends two thousand cows.
Lawrence boosters prepare a mass parade from South Park at 2:15 pm to open the Kansas University football season. Four bands will lead the line including the University and Haskell groups, with university and local teams represented. March proceeds through downtown to McCook Field, then boosters by car follow, urged to decorate with school colors and signs.
Floyd Thompson, wanted in Lawrence for stealing $18 from Capens restaurant two years ago, was arrested in Kansas City. Deputy Sheriff Crowder traveled to Topeka to obtain extradition papers. The case may hinge on whether the misdemeanor extradition is honored.
Washington October 2. Senate defers all bills aimed at revising internal revenue or tariff laws until after the peace treaty is settled. Finance committee action delays changes including higher tariffs on dyes and tungsten. Proposals to repeal the luxury tax on soft drinks and reduce levies on Loganberry juice are postponed indefinitely.

A large crowd attended the opening day of the Vinland Grange fair with attendance expected to rise. J N Chapman Leavenworth county farm agent judged fruit grain and poultry exhibits. Livestock exhibits drew interest as Vinland high school beat a pickup team 5 to 4. Local schools granted a holiday to attend.
Basil Church of Lawrence heads the senior Loyalty ticket with Lillian Cottrell 15 as vice president Iris Russell as secretary and Paul Fox as treasurer. Opposing ticket led by Wint Smith rising from military service remains unannounced. In the Junior Class John Wahlstedt presides with Florence Carlgren vice president and Grace Olson secretary. opposition named Logical ticket expected Monday. Freshmen and sophomores near field with two tickets per class anticipated next week.

Scott N. Bailey and Sophrona Bailey married August 16 seek divorce in district court claiming continual cruelty and gross neglect. The petition notes an unhappy home, while another case cites Charles Jones versus Dorothy Jones, married October 5, 1917, alleging cruelty and neglect.
The Douglas county farm bureau conducts annual polls for township vice presidents. Meetings will select officers next week in Kanwaka Palmyra and Fudora townships with sessions Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday nights at township halls.

In Elaine Arkansas, Oct 3 a reported clash involved about fifty soldiers of the Fourth Infantry and an equal number of armed blacks in a wooded area three miles east of Elaine. One soldier wounded, taken to Elaine. In Helena Oct 2 a Committee of Seven began formal investigations into Phillips County racial disorders linked to Elaine killings with five white dead and five wounded and fourteen blacks dead reported.
Mr and Mrs L H Menger returned after spending a month visiting points of interest on the Atlantic coast.
Five minutes after opening the union avenue bank of commerce at 9 am five bandits forced bank officers and customers into a vault and fled with 35000 in cash. Police pursued in a car riddled with bullets. robbers switched vehicles and were last seen north toward North Kansas City. Patrolman Edwards fired. one bandit dropped 1800 in money in the street. The robbers were described as cool and experienced during the hold up.
The Douglas and Leavenworth counties organize a YMCA association with seven Douglas towns Clinton Pleasant Grove Tecoma n Big Springs Vinland Midland Lone Star and expected additions Isa dora Williamstown. In Leavenworth Reno Linwood will join with Charles FE Henry as County Secretary in Lawrence to oversee physical vocational and religious training for boys and young men and assist regional social and community work. The annual budget for the upcoming YMCA program is about $3000.
All Santa Fe traffic routed via Lawrence today after a derailment west of Olathe blocked the cut-off through Ottawa. An oil train with nineteen cars derailed and a gasoline car exploded, igniting the train. No details yet on damage or detour duration through Lawrence.
Washington October 2 Secretary Baker announced plans to bring home the bodies of all American soldiers buried in Germany Belgium Italy Great Britain Luxemburg and Northern Russia for final burial in the United States as soon as arrangements can be made. He said supplies storage and a special army staff have been provided and the work will start once transportation is arranged.
October 3 report from the White House notes no change in President Wilson's condition. A trained nurse assists Mrs. Wilson in caring for the patient while medical advisors from the naval medical school and physicians from Philadelphia participate in consultations. The President has no fever and his heart action remains good.
Albert Emanuel petitions the Kansas Public Utilities Commission to authorize a seven cent on car fare and five for thirty cents for tickets, arguing current six cent fares fall short of rising operation costs. City approves. Topeka had delayed raising fares previously. Lawrence saw reduced ridership after six cent rate. five months show fare receipts up only modestly against higher expenses.
The Post Office Department reports delays in delivering surplus army rations ordered for Kansas and Missouri. Lawrence awaits shipments, with St. Louis depot overloaded. Notices urge posting army retail store ads for disposal of surplus blankets clothing.
Married by Probate Judge Dominick Palermo of Merriam and Anna Cipolla of Kansas City were wed at the courthouse yesterday with Clarence Higgins and Lucile Cuezza as witnesses. Palermo works for H. D. Lee. Ched H. Hail and Dorothy Ethel Hellar, both of Bonner Springs, also married by Judge Lindley yesterday afternoon.
J H Cooper of Cooner Stone Contracting Co and Atte Locke of Minot N D were married in Kansas City Missouri on Tuesday by Reverend Wm H Thomas of Allen Chapel A E M church. The couple will spend a month in Topeka before settling in Kansas City.
