Calculation error found in state assessments
State education officials traced a calculation error to three districts that used ACT or ACT Explore instead of the state exam for eighth grade and high school. The double counting of older students skewed statewide results, especially in Kansas City Kansas, where scores dropped as the more rigorous ACT lowered performance. The state will report updated figures only for state administered tests and keep a task force to study the achievement gap with a report due in spring.
