Dole Institute director to leave KU for Lincoln Library
Richard Norton Smith will depart the University of Kansas to become executive director of the Lincoln Library in Illinois. Blagojevich praised his hire, noting the Lincoln project includes a 47,000 item collection and a 100 person staff, with the Dole Institute staff at five. Smith disclosed his decision last week, saying the Lincoln story offers a three dimensional future. KU Chancellor Hemenway commented he was not surprised by the move.

Dean Steve McAllister will lead the institute during a national director search, with aims to keep programming and fundraising on track and reach a $20 million endowment target.
