Los Angeles County issued 36 checks totaling about 24 million to a family alleging deputies beat and terrorized them at a 1989 bridal shower. David Dole sustained severe head injuries after being struck 50 times with billy clubs. he received the largest check of 4.8 million. Deputies arrived in riot gear after a reported party disturbance.
