Kellner adds river land to Kansas farm acreage

In St Marys Kansas a quarter section along the Kaw river was added to H F Kellner’s 400 acre farm after recent flooding. Kellner values the accretion at 24 000 dollars and hopes to raise at least six bushels per yard of the new land next year. Steel jetties installed in 1919 protected his property and boosted his holdings. The river’s sediment holds about 28 million cubic feet of soil and the power of the river was likened to the labor of 100 men for over a year. The steam work achieved in less than a week would have required the men to shovel for a long period at a cost near 195 000 dollars.
