Salina officer released after hospital shooting injuries
Salina police report Officer Chuck Huen, 38, shot in the face, has been released from an Oklahoma City hospital. He will need further surgeries after being wounded during the late Thursday shooting that led to a six hour standoff. Police say a Salina teen fired as officers entered a residence relating to a stolen car call. Deputy Chief Carson Mansfield said the case remains under review by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

Recommended KGS rate increases differ in Wichita
Kansas Gas Service seeks a net annual rate increase near 32 million dollars, while Kansas Corporation Commission staff propose only 3.6 million. The Wichita Eagle says the recommendations appear in documents filed last week. If approved, the average bill would rise by 5.68 dollars under KGS and about 1 dollar under the KCC proposal. Dawn Ewing says KGS is still reviewing the staff plan but maintains the original proposal would yield fair rates.

The Ivan L. Boyd Center for Collaborative Science Education will be dedicated Friday at Baker University. The upgraded Mulvane Science Hall now features a 9,000-square-foot addition called Hartley Hall and houses biology chemistry math physics and information technology spaces.
