Kansas reported September tax receipts $5 million to $5.5 million below FY 1986 first-quarter estimates. Sales tax fell 9 percent, corporate income tax down 13 percent, individual income down 3 percent, and mineral severance tax off 4 percent for the month.
Douglas County Extension agent Jack Lindquist warns that a recent cool wet spell and an overnight frost could halt growth of fall crops. He notes harvest delays, with about half of soybeans and milo ready, 50 percent of corn harvested, and yields projected around 120 bushels per acre for dryland corn and 100 for milo. He says frost risks wilt late crops, but potential profits depend on fixed costs and break-even prices per farm.

KU's full-time equivalency enrollment for the Lawrence campus and off campus programs is 22 182 this fall, up 402 from 1984 but below the 1980 record of 22 189. The fall headcount hits 24 774, a record. experts cite more part time and off campus work as causes.
