U.N. vote recognizes state of Palestine in historic move
The United Nations backed a Palestinian state as a nonmember observer by 138 to 9 with 41 abstentions. Israelis criticized the vote as undermining negotiations while Palestinians celebrated in Ramallah and abroad. U S and Israel rejected recognition calling it counterproductive.
