Smithsonian to display panda remains at National Museum

The 28 year old giant panda Hsing Hsing died Sunday from kidney disease. Remains will be shown early next year in the National Museum of Natural History rotunda before moving to the mammal hall when it reopens in 2003. Ling Ling’s remains also reside at the museum but cannot be displayed. The panda and Ling Ling are part of the Smithsonian Institution.

California Astronomers Detect Six New Planets

An international team including researchers from University of California Santa Cruz and Berkeley announced the discovery of six new extrasolar planets orbiting nearby stars, bringing the total detected planets outside the solar system to 28. They found indirect but convincing evidence from a Spremnalic study of 30 sunlike stars and noted four known planetary systems may host multiple planets. The finding marks a significant addition to the growing catalog of exoplanets and suggests more complex planetary systems than previously thought.

Bomb search delays WTO opening amid Seattle protests
