Lawrence officials meet at 5 45 p m at City Hall to consider issuing 7 8 million in industrial revenue bonds for the redevelopment of 800 New Hampshire Ave Douglas Compton plans a five story apartment building with a first floor restaurant or retail space and 50 to 55 units The project would exempt construction materials from sales tax and cost the city about 74 000 in sales tax revenue while the state and Douglas County would lose roughly 227 000 and 13 000 respectively The Public Incentives Review Committee backs the bonds.

The Kansas Department of Transportation reports the eastern half of the Bob Billings Parkway interchange at the South Lawrence Trafficway is open. Exit ramp from northbound K 10 and entrance ramp to northbound K 10 from Bob Billings Parkway are usable. North 1500 Road east side and new bike path also open. Full opening planned for Friday, Dec 18 if weather permits. earlier schedule stalled due to sinking pavement.
