KU Endowment's Rise From 19th Century Gifts to Modern Fundraising
The KU Endowment story traces its 1891 founding to Robinson and Snow forging a private association to manage gifts for KU. Early milestones include land gifts, the McCook Field legacy, and the Kappa Alpha Theta and other funds, fueling Memorial Campanile, Lied Center and more. Today 19 percent of KU's budget comes from state funds and 13.1 percent from Endowment, with $2.3 billion in direct support since inception. Endowment staff and donor relations drive ongoing gifts from alumni and friends, advancing research, professorships, and facilities.
