City to move transit transfer point on Vermont Street
Transit administrator Rob ert Nugent announced a new transfer point on the east side of Vermont Street between the two city parking lot entrances in the 800 block. About 16 Vermont parking spaces will close while spaces are gained on New Hampshire and Ninth streets where buses load and unload. The city plans a permanent bus station location after consulting experts, with a report due by mid 2013 likely recommending a site outside downtown due to space limits. Commissioners also directed staff to draft an ordinance for sidewalk dining umbrellas to be at least 80 inches high, and unanimously annexed 90 acres north of Sixth Street and the South Lawrence Trafficway for a proposed KU sports complex and city recreation center, pending an agreement with the KU Endowment Association.
