First measurement of atom in an extrasolar planet atmosphere
Using the Hubble Space Telescope, scientists measured sodium in the atmosphere of a planet orbiting HD209458, 150 light-years away, proving atmospheric analysis of an exoplanet is possible. The team says this milestone advances the search for Earthlike worlds and life indicators, with future observations planned for methane, water, carbon dioxide, and ozone.
