In Mobile Alabama on November 28 two masked bandits abducted three young society women, forcing them to drive toward Jackson before releasing them near a Toll bridge over the Tombigbee. Victims were Miss Virginia Whiting, Miss Loraine Walsh, and Miss Janet Powers. Powers was driving when attackers boarded and threatened them, ordering a turn to a side road. Eastern Air Lines pilot R G Ber Chew bailed out at about 4000 to 5000 feet eight miles north of Scottsboro Alabama after his motor failed on a Chicago Atlanta mail flight.
