District Court Hears Two Cases with Hung Jury

Trains Crash Near Hutto Injures Passengers in Fog

A southbound International Great Northern passenger train collided with a freight engine half a mile west of Hutto Texas at 6 30 am in dense fog. The engineer fireman and brake man were injured probably fatally and at least seven passengers hurt. Ambulances ferried the wounded to Taylor hospital where an order of silence was imposed. Freight cars scattered, one baggage car split, another overturned. Large crowd of football fans en route to the Texas Aggie game were aboard.

Deserter Claims Role in Knaak Furnace Incident

James Kelly, alias with multiple names, held in San Antonio after confessing to throwing Elfrieda Knaak a book agent and psychology student into a furnace at Lake Bluff Illinois police station on October 31. Police chief Kilday consulted Lake Bluff officers for instructions as Kelly, claimed to be a deserter from the United States army, was seized by military police at Selfridge Field Michigan.

Day violator gets life in Flint fourth felony

Channie Tripp, 37 of Flint, was sentenced to life imprisonment after a fourth violation of the prohibition law. Circuit Judge Fred W. Brennan imposed the life term under the new state criminal code mandating life for a fourth felony conviction. Fred Balm of Lansing also received a life sentence for possessing a pint of gin after three prior felonies.

San Bernardino California November 28 AP County Assessor Allen taxed the banquet halls of the First Congregational and First Baptist churches of Redlands after ruling the churches forfeited tax exemption by leasing space to service clubs and the Chamber of Commerce for paid banquets. John V. Bright, 16, remained in critical condition at Memorial hospital after being accidentally shot in the left side while carrying a shotgun during a Sunday morning hunt. Bobcat killed near Lawrence surprises hunters

Ernest Shepard, a colored man, killed a rare bobcat in Morgan pasture about six miles north of Lawrence while on a coon hunt with family. The 37 inch long, 19 inch high animal weighed 23 pounds and will be shown at Green Brothers store. Witnesses called it a lynx cat or catamount.
