Santa shoppers push early holiday value across retailers

Japan firm picks Olathe for plant
Gov. Joan Finney announced Gunze Limited of Osaka will build its first U.S. plastics plant in Olathe at the Deerfield Business Park. The facility will make heat shrinkable polypropylene film for frozen food cosmetics and other items, employing 18 workers at opening next June with room to grow. Finney leads a Kansas trade delegation to Japan and will visit Osaka.

Finney rules out tax on doctors and providers
Gov Finney said she will not ask lawmakers to impose a provider tax on doctors hospitals and nursing homes amid cabinet talk of the idea. The run says no plan is ready but WS anticipates funds for Medicaid. state seeks 64.9 million for 1994 with federal matching at 1.50 to 1. The Kansas Medical Society opposes the tax while DSRS notes no substantive proposal exists yet.

Clinton urged to back Kassebaum health plan in new letter
Senator Nancy Kassebaum and six other lawmakers urged President-elect Clinton to seriously consider the BasiCare Health Access and Cost Control Act.
