Regions in North report a bad cold snap as Fire Chief John Miller was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Wednesday for a physical checkup and observation after his condition worsened from a flu he had Monday. He remained hospitalized after the evaluation.
Gov. George Docking asks Atty. Gen. John Anderson if statutes granting powers to the State Finance Council are constitutional. He seeks rulings on pay raise schedules, approval-conditioned appropriations, administrative actions, and appeals from agency actions.
Eight African Americans visited Crandon Park beach in Miami and were admitted without incident. Led by Rev. Theodore Gibson they planned a desegregation suit but left declaring no case if denied again. County Attorney Darrey A. Davis says they will receive equal treatment.
A bulldozer operator Glen W. Nance, 34, was killed in Roeland Park Kansas when a tree limb flew from a struck limb. The incident occurred Wednesday as the machine hit the limb.

A Canadian cold front and strong winds moved through northern states after a day of snow from the north Rockies to the mid Mississippi Valley and Atlantic Coast. Temperatures fell 15 to 30 degrees with winds to 50 mph. several areas logged snowfall including 5 inches in North Dakota and 7 inches in Erie County Pennsylvania.
Dr. Robert P. Hudson was named assistant dean in charge of student affairs at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City by the Board of Regents. He will assume the post December 1 and has served at KU Medical Center since 1968, rising from instructor to associate in medicine last year.

State architect’s office in Topeka to receive bids for the estimated $900000 project. The 76 by 48 foot structure will rise on the east side of Snow Hall housing life sciences departments.

Los Angeles AP. George A. Hewlett vice president and cashier of Long Beach National Bank left his wife and daughter and died by suicide after writing a string of unbacked cashier's checks to John R. Authorities say Hewlett did not profit and the case hinges on outstanding checks from 1953 onward.
An eleven month old, Grant Gabler, fell from a mother's car on the Hollywood Freeway in Los Angeles. The infant was found unharmed by Virgil Valentine, who stopped from his truck and collected him. He suffered bruises and a possible concussion.

He, age 48, claims California domestic courts always favor women.
