Kansas bureau studies backlog of untested rape kits in state
Kansas law enforcement surveys aim to measure backlog of sexual assault kits. KBI director Kirk Thompson says no backlog is believed in Kansas, but 66 kits await testing. Labs in Topeka, Kansas City, and Great Bend perform DNA analysis, with testing times of two to three hours plus three to five days for processing. The Joyful Heart Foundation notes testing costs between 500 and 1000 dollars per kit.
