County Clerk George Brane oversees explosives licenses in Douglas County under a federal act. Defines explosives, lists license types for manufacturers vendors and foremen, and requires detailed sales records sworn to for submission to the Bureau of Mines.
Grant township boys report two hundred CPA members gathered in Eudora for a lively meeting. An oyster supper with generous bowls of rich milk and country butter delighted attendees. Forty new members were initiated as Lone Star boys sang, Sigel Rose delivered an Arkansan monologue and burlesque, Henry Eibest performed bone tricks, and a three piece orchestra played.
A correction clarifies the incident concerns the Donnelly car rather than Elmer Curtis. Curtis was driving slowly toward a garage repair when a Little Brown boy stepped into the street, causing the collision. The car halted before its wheels could strike the child.
Dr M E Poland an anti tobacco speaker was arrested on a cruelty to animals charge after a Lafayette school demonstration showed nicotine on a cat’s tongue. The cat died within four minutes. Poland and Dr E W Gordon of the No Tobacco League of America were in Lawrence from Bethany West Virginia November 12 for a speaking tour. Gordon was not located yesterday. Attendance at the Baptist Calendar event was reported as substantial.
The University of Kansas Home Economics Department donates twelve gallons of mince meat to the men of Company M at Camp Doniphan Fort Sill Oklahoma. Adopted by the department and the Women's Student Government Association the unit will enjoy a real Thanksgiving dinner with turkey cranberries and pie prepared by students.
Authorities announce immediate initiation of a 3-cantonment prison for slackers spies and other war offenders at Ellsworth and Leavenworth. The cantonments will be ringed by a sixteen foot barbed wire fence. Construction cost is $236,000. Inmates will be kept under hard labor.

The Brenta to Piave sector saw renewed assaults and counterattacks through the night.
Henry J. Albach, 18, son of Henry Albach, serves in the wireless service and shows rapid advancement. Born to German-born grandparents, he gained 95 percent on Chicago exams earning entry to Harvard Naval Radio School in Cambridge. County Commissioners asked City Commissioners to meet at the courthouse for a conference on public health officials. They suggested a date between December 3 and 12 and hoped a meeting would ease ongoing tensions akin to the war era peace talks.
Washington reports definite news of another German submarine destruction by American destroyers as Vice Admiral Sima confirms. The submarine was damaged by a depth charge and sank after a destroyer attached a tow line while attempting to take it in tow.

An investigation shows quail eat weed seeds grains and fruits, and most of their diet comes from stubble. They wage a war on insects including potato beetles chinch bugs and boll weevils. Attorney general says no open season on quail this fall. Every farmer should protect quail to aid crop production and enforce the law.
A troop train bound for the Army Navy game collided with passenger train 105 at North Topeka at 10 am. Four soldiers from Camp Funston and several railroad workers were injured including J W Brownlee J H Williams and Thomas Evans. Names include J K Holloway George Ross N E Gaines Robert Proffit Sanford Howard and Sanford Howard among others.
A Baptist church plans a New Year's Day meeting with a roll call. E J Hilkey Eva Horton and Mrs N C Johnson lead preliminary work and aim to contact all absent and resident members. A dinner committee includes Mrs W C Simons L H Menger E C Johnston W R Evans Maude Moody. Prof A B Olin heads the general committee over the day’s program.
The Great Lakes Naval Training Station meets Camp Funston in a charity football game at Kansas City’s American Association Park this afternoon. A big crowd is expected as stars from both teams, including Pat Smith and Charles An, are set to play, with Funston boasting many noted players and coaches.

Pedro Villosnievi, a Mexican national, was removed from a Santa Fe train arriving Lawrence at 11 08 pm and taken to the Lawrence police station. Officers found a pint of whiskey, fined him $25 for violating the bone dry law, and he was allowed to continue his journey southward.

The Woodlawn School presented its most successful entertainment night to a packed house and repeated it Friday for friends. Receipts will finance a Victrola for the school music program.
A 250 member county Farm Bureau organization was formed in the Chamber of Commerce rooms with Dean Edward Johnson of Kansas State Agricultural College as chair. A president vice president and secretary treasurer were elected and advisory board members chosen from townships to select ten to serve as an executive council. Funds come from dues county appropriations state and federal support and a one time equipment payment. The county agent will coordinate with the Agricultural College and be elected by the board of directors.
Washington announces that hearings on proposed grain standards and rules under the U S Department of Agriculture will be held nationwide. Producers merchants warehousemen and carriers are urged to attend and submit concrete recommendations tied to specific classes grades and sections. The session notes shelled corn standards effective since 1918 covering hard red winter red winter and common wheats. An Old Folks Concert benefiting the Red Cross is also reported under the Ladies of the G R.
