Refugees Arrive in Milwaukee Welcome at Airport

A crowd braved nine degree wind to greet 74 Hungarian refugees arriving via Gen Billy Mitchell Field. The group, 66 adults, 6 children and 2 infants, attended a brief welcome service, then Thanksgiving mass at St Emeric's Catholic Church before heading to a downtown hotel for a fish dinner. They are supervised by St Vincent de Paul Society for the National Catholic Welfare Council.

British to Withdraw Battalion From Suez Port Said

British forces in Egypt announced a token withdrawal from Port Said as U N troops move to assume command. Nagy departs to Romania with asylum seekers

SUDAFEST government spokesman said deposed Hungarian Premier Imre Nagy left for Communist Romania today after expressing a wish to live in a people’s democratic country. Nagy’s companions, who sought asylum with him in the Yugoslav Embassy, were accompanying him to Romania.

Wichita Wreck Kills Two Near U S 54

A car collision on U S 54 near Wichita yesterday killed two people and left four injured two critically. The deceased were Mrs Bertha J McGuire 75 of Wichita and Ralph Ruth 60 of Solomon. Mrs McGuire was a passenger in a car driven by her husband Stover’s Candy Rexall advertisement.

Arsenic Poisoning Suspected in Hagerstown Family Tragedy

Traces of arsenic were found in the well water of a family of eleven in Kearneysville and Hagerstown. Three children and a parent died. eight others, including the mother Helen Kidwell, were hospitalized as investigators from two states probe the mass poisoning. The father William Kidwell died after hospital admission a week earlier, with two younger children also confirmed dead. A Leavenworth obituary note reports Matthew W. Malone, 81, former Leavenworth Democratic leader, passing away last night.
