Farmer killed by truck on Highway 59
Pearl Johnson a 44 year old farmer nine miles southwest of Lawrence was killed instantly when struck by a transport truck on Highway 59 as he moved cattle across the road. Kenneth Edwards 25 of Holton faces a charge of culpable negligence in the death. Witnesses including Salvation Army workers saw the truck pass as Johnson moved cattle. Edwards said the left fender struck him as a cow darted back onto the highway. Funeral services set for Washington Creek church Wednesday.
