A broad coalition including KU alumni students and faculty plans a large lobbying push before the 1972 Kansas legislative session. They aim to persuade legislators to increase tax support for higher education while urging positive, constructive advocacy over confrontational tactics.
The acclaimed pianist Claude Frank will play in the Kansas University Concert Course at 8 20 p m Monday in the University Theatre Murphy Hall. He will perform works by Mozart Beethoven Schumann and Frank Martin. Born in Germany Frank began piano at six and later studied with Schnabel. His career includes European tours and appearances with major American orchestras.
The Kansas Board of Regents group met in Topeka to prepare for the governor's budget hearing. Chancellor Laurence Chalmers said officials received a bleak forecast from the state budget office and explored unified testimony. They floated options to designate one president for faculty matters and another for equipment. A proposal to exempt faculty and staff from incidental fees was postponed for legal review before December. Caudill Rowlett Scott consultants briefed the leaders on Phase I planning. They also approved rotating chairmanships across inter-institutional committees.
James M. Osborn, a book collector and scholar, will present the 17th annual public Lecture on Books and Bibliography at Kansas University. The 3 30 p m event in Kenneth Spencer Research Library auditorium covers a computerized system for indexing poetic manuscripts. Sponsored by KU Libraries and the English department.

The National Energy Board announced no extra natural gas available for export to the United States and rejected requests to export 2.7 trillion cubic feet. It said Canadian supplies as of June 30 were 1.1 trillion cubic feet below projected domestic needs over the next 25 years and existing export contracts require more.
Mrs. Harrison, now a Southern University history staff member in Baton Rouge, says she and Leonard Harrison separated before she left Lawrence. She completed a PhD in history last fall and now lives with their two children in Louisiana. She has had no contact with him and knows nothing of his whereabouts.
The Phillips Petroleum Co announces a $5,000 grant from its Professional Development Fund to Kansas University for 1971 72. Chancellor Laurence Chalmers says the gift supports growth in engineering physical sciences business and related fields.
Senate Democrats condemned Earl L. Butz as unfit to lead the Agriculture Department amid GOP support. Proxmire cited a GM sponsored speech in which Butz mocked welfare, criticized food stamps, and decried consumerists and environmentalists, while Dole claimed 20 to 30 Senate votes against him.
Welfare problems in Lawrence and Douglas County will be discussed at a 7 30 a m Eggs and Issues breakfast hosted by the League of Women Voters. A panel from the Douglas County Welfare Office County Commission State Legislature Ministerial Alliance Salvation Army Ballard Center and the Emergency Service Council will answer questions. District Court Clerk Mrs. Lucille Allison said no jurors should report next week. Jurors ordered for 9 am Monday must report Nov 29 and those set for 1:30 pm Tuesday must report at 9 am Dec 1. Criminal jury trials were continued to a later court day.
