The Rock of Chickamauga Statue Unveiling in Washington

Washington November 19. The Army of the Cumberland held a gala procession and unveiled a statue of Gen. George H Thomas amid large crowds. Gov Mathews Generals Hartrandt Butterfield Kimball attended with Gen Garfield presiding. The ceremony included prayers, an oration by Stanley Matthews, and a reception. About 50,000 onlookers watched the tribute to the veteran commander. A holiday mood prevailed as plans for tomorrow included a Mount Vernon excursion and a grande promenade concert.
