KU Honors Mrs. Spencer with Fred Blisworth Medallion

Mrs. Spencer of Kansas City received the Fred Blisworth Medallion at a Thursday dinner hosted by the Kansas Board of Regents and Chancellor Archie Dykes. A KU Class of 1926 alumna, she chairs the Kenneth A. and Helen F. Spencer Foundation which funds the Spencer Library Kansas Collection and other KU facilities. She also funds the Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art under construction to house the university art collection.

Sunflower project ahead of schedule at Sunflower Army plant

DeSoto contractor reports progress on the 92 million nitroguanidine production complex at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant near Lawrence. First guardhouse finished, perimeter fence 95 percent complete, roads and railroads near completion. By 1980 the plant should be operational as the only domestic nitroguanidine source.

Baldwin Man Dies in Head-On 1 35 Crash Near Olathe

A Baldwin resident, Johnie Bruce Sauders, 60, died after his northbound 1 35 vehicle was struck head on by James N. Prell of Overland Park who crossed the median. Sauders, en route to pick up a GM paycheck, died at KU Medical Center. Surviving family includes wife Frances Ott Sauders and children Sharon Hird and Joel. Funeral services set for Annunciation Catholic Church with a rosary at Lamb Roberts Funeral Home.

Carter Demos discuss tax cut during Carter meeting

Representative George H. Mahon said the three hour session in Lovejoy Georgia covered economic stimulation and unemployment with no clear consensus on a tax cut. Mahon noted Carter urged strong appointments to stabilize business confidence and spoke of a balanced long term budget.

Kansas Power and Light Declares Quarterly Dividend

The board of Kansas Power and Light Co met in Manhattan and declared a quarterly dividend of 40 cents per share on common stock payable January 31 1977 to holders of record December 3 1976. Regular dividends on all preferred stock were also declared. Mercury Hits Record High In Lawrence Then Cools

Lawrence temperatures topped 77 degrees, surpassing the 1942 record of 76 for the day. A Canadian high-pressure system pushed evening skies partly cloudy with low 50s, and the forecast calls for more cool weather through Sunday. Kansas highs ranged from 79 in Topeka to 68 in Goodland while lows spanned 26 at Hill City to 42 at Pittsburg.

Gilmore may be allowed to talk to girl friend

Gary Gilmore in near isolation at Utah State Prison awaits a decision by the Board of Pardons on his death sentence for a motel clerk killing. His girlfriend Nicole Barrett recovered from a coma after a suicide pact attempt. The bar commission will review ethics complaints against Gilmore's attorney Dennis Boaz amid inquiries into his involvement.
