Six days after vanishing, Joseph Waldholtz, husband of Rep. Enid Waldholtz of Utah, turned himself in to federal authorities to answer to allegations tied to questionable financial practices by him and his estranged wife. Weather notes indicate clearing skies with highs around 60 and a low near 34.
Sen Dianne Feinstein rebukes Navy official Jason Dalton over disparaging comments about three servicemen in Okinawa and a reported schoolgirl incident. The comment underscores friction over handling of the case influencing public trust in the Navy.

Governor Fife Symington led National Guard troops and state park rangers to Grand Canyon to press the president to reopen the park. The park, almost deserted after a first shutdown in 76 years, drew student voices of disappointment as talks began for a partial solution and broader access.
Norman Clifford of Kansas University forecasts above average but slower growth for Kansas in 1996 at the 19th annual Economic Outlook Conference. Employment should rise about 1.8 percent next year, down from 2.3 percent, while personal income growth eases from 6.2 percent to about 5.5 percent.
