Data show KU four year 24.7 percent and six year 54.6 percent with Wichita State lowest four year rate at 7.8 and Pittsburg State highest at 24.9. KU six year 54.6 versus WSU 30.3. Regents urged better support for minority students and retention as part of a state wide higher education plan through 2000.
Flight attendants at American Airlines walk out delaying flights nationwide. The carrier warns of firings and plans to use managers to keep service, as unions and airline fail to reach a new contract after two days of federally mediated talks. About 21,000 members threaten 11 days off including Thanksgiving travel period.
A professional burglary ring has struck across Douglas County and three other counties, with at least 100 residences hit in the last month. Douglas County reports over 12 break ins, mostly in newer homes west of Highway 59, as thieves steal electronics and jewelry. Losses range from $2,000 to $4,000 per burglary. Authorities say the ring operates in daytime, forcing entry with doors kicked.
