Comforts and coats arrive for Douglas county relief clients
In Douglas county court house today relief clients received winter bedding and coats. A shipment of 612 cotton comforts and 48 leather coats from KERC offices in Topeka arrived late Saturday and most had been distributed by this afternoon. The comforts were sewn in relief rooms and the coats used leather from government slaughtered cattle.

Douglas County explores relief staff choices at court house
Douglas county commissioners and the county relief committee spent the morning interviewing applicants for a combined position. No recommendation to KERC was made as references were considered. Federal dole funds have limited availability with only a small balance left for work relief clients not in WPA jobs. The federal re employment office reports 191 men and 27 women on the relief roll as of noon, with 52 men needed for the new PWA sanitary sewer project and 19 starting Wednesday. This month 196 men and 76 women from relief rolls have been assigned to WPA jobs, while about nine to soil erosion work in early October.

Ottawa coal truck driver dies after train collision at 18th crossing

Mud jack slated to fix sunken pavement in city
City to test a mud jack machine on a rental basis of 80 dollars a month with option to buy for 750 dollars.
