Kansans Begin Major Overhaul Of Nursing Home Rules

Kansas lawmakers opened the first major revision of nursing home regulations in 14 years. The interim committee advanced a bill on adult care home standards, balancing industry claims of higher costs with reformist pushes for more nursing services and in service training. The panel also debated admitting mentally retarded residents and considered grandfather clauses for existing homes.

Press secretary ousts reporters at White House briefing

NBC Accepts Restrictions In Antitrust Settlement

The government settled an antitrust suit with NBC after it agreed to broad production limits for entertainment programs. NBC may not exceed 214 hours weekly of prime time, eight hours daytime, and 11 hours late night or early morning, and must buy many programs from independent producers for 10 years. Similar suits against CBS and ABC remain pending.

Mild Kansas weather ahead with warm weekend forecast

The National Weather Service expects clear skies and highs in the upper 60s Thursday and cooler 40s Friday through Sunday after a sunny day with temperatures near 50s. Tramer Named to State Post in Kansas Corrections

Carl Tramel of 713 Mo has been appointed deputy secretary for management services of the Kansas Department of Corrections. Robert R. Raines announced Tramel as principal fiscal analyst for the Legislative Research Department. Formerly he was business manager at the Kansas Reception and Diagnostic Center Topeka and a budget analyst for the Department of Administration. He will oversee budget preparation fiscal management personnel administration staff development and the Corrections Industries Program.

Beef prices set to rise to record highs in 1977

Agriculture Department economist Richard Crom warned that retail beef prices will climb in 1977, averaging about 1.49 per pound, up from 1.39 in 1976. He cited reduced herds from women ranchers facing losses and noted pork prices should dip, while beef remains the dominant family meat budget.
