Falconry, an ancient sport dating about 4000 years, remains rare in Kansas with roughly 50 license holders. Jessica Winebarger of the Kansas Department of Wildlife notes it is a lifestyle requiring daily bird training, seven years to become proficient, and substantial costs for gear and hunting grounds. Last week about 250 falconers and 1,800 supporters from around the world gathered in Hutchinson for the North American Falconry Association event.
