Panel explains Afghanistan history and radicalism origins
Kansas University historian Rose Greaves and three experts describe how the collapse of the 18th century Muslim empires fostered fundamentalist sects that spread a violence rooted form of Islam. Raheem Yaseer notes Afghanistan’s crossroads role, Soviet invasion, and postwar chaos that allowed bin Laden to operate from the country. Other speakers include Jeff Colyer and Captain James Cooper outlining Western involvement and regional dynamics.
