At Dak To in the central highlands three heavy North Vietnamese mortar barrages struck the U.S. 4th Infantry Division base and an ammunition dump. The blasts destroyed two C 130 transports and damaged a third, igniting a village nearby and forcing the evacuation of about 500 Montagnard dependents. US forces fought back with artillery and air strikes as battles continued in the Dak To area and a helicopter downing raised concerns over the US air campaign and a high command change in the Marine Corps

A 21 year old Kansas City Kansas woman Judy Nilsen reportedly shot herself in a parked car near Clinton Park at 5th and Ala Streets. She was hit in the left shoulder by a .22 pistol and transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital in fairly good condition. Police say no foul play is suspected and the investigation continues.
