Winter sports tryouts see large numbers at LHS and FSHS
On the first day of winter sports practice in Lawrence, large turnouts greeted programs at both Lawrence High and Free State. Free State basketball drew about 35 freshmen with similar upperclassmen hopes, while LHS basketball showcased many upperclassmen and a strong freshman contingent. Swimming numbers reached 41 for LHS and 36 for Free State with nine freshmen at the latter, and wrestling attracted about 40 at Free State and 35 at Lawrence. Coaches cited recruitment from other sports and returning players as drivers behind the sizable rosters.
