Butler Convicted in Bribery Case Faces Three Years

Col Ed Butler millionaire and St Louis politician was found guilty of attempting to bribe Dr Chapman of the St Louis board of health to secure a vote on a city bagage contract. The jury imposed three years in the penitentiary. Butler showed visible anxiety as the sentence was read. The verdict surprised Columbia observers who expected acquittal or a lighter sentence.
